Snow in Spain

MORE than half of Spain is on red-alert over the risk of snowfall this week.

A total of 34 provinces are expected to be affected, mostly inland.

But traffic jams on major trunk roads could be seen in coastal provinces that are not hit by snow, due to gridlocks caused by the weather further along the motorways.

In Castilla-La Mancha and Castilla y León, the provinces of Toledo, Cuenca, Albacete, Ciudad Real and Guadalajara are expected to be covered in white stuff this week.

Teruel and the Rincón de Ademuz, plus the N-330 running through both, could be cut off in parts.

AENA has also warned of possible delays to flights leaving from and arriving at Madrid's Barajas airport.

Snow could directly or indirectly affect the traffic on main roads in western Andalucía, the Comunidad Valenciana, Murcia, and the provinces of Almería and Granada.

High winds and torrential rain is predicted to continue this week on the east coast, which has already seen deluges over Sunday and Monday.
